從《看新聞學英文》10 月 12 日 的單元 (「諾貝爾文學獎」怎拼？)
可以看出大家學英文的心態非常隨便馬虎 (當然英文一定會學不好)
最可怕的就是喜歡望文生義想當然耳完全不管英文語言邏輯
單元中對 "merge" 這個「動詞」的處理可說是最佳錯誤典範
句中加上「引號」的「關係子句」原句型是 A merges B (=C, D, and E) with F
A = who (= Mo Yan)
B = C (= folk tales), D (= history), and E (= the contemporary)
F = hallucinatory realism
句意為：A 將 B 與 F 合而為一
原句應為
"who merges folk tales, history, and the contemporary with hallucinatroy realism."
= "who combines folk tales, history, and the contemporary with hallucinatroy realism."
(他將民俗傳說、歷史與當代融合在魔幻寫實主義之中。)
但因修辭上「受詞」(folk tales, history, and the contemporary) 過長
於是將「介係詞片語」(with hallucinatory realism) 位移到「動詞」前
才會形成目前見到的句子：
"who with hallucinatory realism merges folk tales, history, and the contemporary."
重點是句型搬風改變但句意邏輯並不會受到影響
可惜單元裡的中譯已經扭曲改變了原來的句意：
他魔幻寫實主義的創作融合民俗傳說、歷史與當代
若要按照這樣的中文句意寫出的英文句子如下：
"whose hullucinatory realism merges with folk tales, history, and the contemporary."
Mike老師可以隨便舉出例子來證明自己的論點
以下這則蘇格蘭新聞網 (STV) 的標題指的是：
國家藝廊著手將藝文與書廊結合
而不是(按照主播的錯誤邏輯)：
國家藝廊的書廊著手結合藝文
其次講到 "realsim" 的同義字應該是 "practicality"
並不是 "practicalness" (朗文英英字典查無此字)
當然並不是說 practicalness 這個字不存在
而是既然同義字字典列出的是 practicality
為何非要寫一個字典查不到的 practicalness 呢
奉勸同學們學英文要務實一點囉 (Be practical!)
